1999 polaris snowmobile 500 floods easily?
I have a polaris 500. It seems to flood very easily, to the point that gas drips out of the exhaust pipe if I keep pulling on the starting cord. The choke is off. I may put the choke on during the first pull only. I haven't noticed that this makes a difference. What does this sound like?? Thanks
It sounds to me, like your carb, or carbs, need some attention, indeed. Your choke, or chockes, may be sticking, just enough, to cause the flooding, that you now experience. Another problem, could be the carb floats, as well. Or, the main metering system. The best thing to do, would be to take the sled, to your dealer, and, have them diagnose the problem. Snowmobile Carbs, being small, yet, can still cause big problems. There are lots of little things inside of the carb, that can wear out. And, with wear, and, time, will do so just at the time, that, you don't want it to.As to the other anwser, stating, to replace the choke, with a primer, don't waste your time. I had a Ski-Doo R.E.V, that I did this to, It wouldn't start, before, with the choke, so I was told, to replace the choke, with a primer. So, I did, so. After that, the sled, would do nothing, but flood. With the primer, it would take ten pulls of the rope, before, the engine, would fire. So, I tossed the primer, as well, and, where the primer was installed, I joined the two gas hoses, with a small pipe, so the gas would flow. I then, got a can of starting fluid, and, sprayed this, into the filters. I then turned the key on, and, gave the rope, a pull, and, it started, on the second pull!!! And, continued to run, without fault. So, now, I just give it a shot of starting fluid, and, it fires up, every time. Off with the choke, and, off with the primer. Once the engine, is warm, you don't need anything. Only when the engine is cold, or, if it is really super cold outside, as well.
